Awendaw McClellanville Holds Pinning & Blessing of the Fleet Ceremony

Awendaw, SC – At 10 o’clock this morning, the Awendaw-McClellanville Consolidated Fire District held a ceremony at the Sewee Visitor Center which included promotional pinning, a blessing of the fleet, and a “wet down” of the 6 new vehicles the department has acquired in the past year. This event was very unique as each member of the department received the newly designed badge which reflects the name change where the Awendaw District Fire Department became the Awendaw-McClellanville Consolidated Fire District.

The promotions consisted of Engineers Paul McKnight, Laura Kelley, and Michael Skelly along with Firefighters Lauren Cook and Simeon Idem.

Engineer Robert Hodge was also recognized for 20 years of service to the department.

Outside Chaplain Rich Robinson of the Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy led the blessing of the fleet which included many members of the district standing along side the firefighters and their families. Afterwards the new fleet was wet down with water cans. 3 Engines, 2 Tenders, and a Battalion Chief “Fire SUV” were lined up ready to be soaked. We captured a 360 degree video of this on the bumper of Engine 902.
