Dorchester County is considering contracting with the City of North Charleston for the city’s fire department to assume coverage of the Ashley River Fire Department.
According to a letter addressed last month from North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey’s office to Dorchester County Council Vice Chair George Bailey, North Charleston proposes to contract with the county “to take possession” of the Ashley River station on Dorchester Road. It’s Ashley River’s only station.Ryan Johnson, spokesman for the mayor’s office, has confirmed the letter’s legitimacy.
