7th Annual Tom Garrity BBQ Challenge

Sumter, SC – The 7th Annual Tom Garrity BBQ Challenge is sure to be a hit this year. For the second year in a row there will be a Fire Apparatus Show, and there will also be a competition for Junior Firefighters. The show, which takes place at the Sumter Fairgrounds, is set for Saturday, November 19th.  All proceeds go to the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

The BBQ Challenge portion is sanctioned by the Southern BBQ Network and will be open for two classes of cookers; Competition and Firefighter teams. There is a 250 dollar entry fee, but as more sponsors are picked up, there is a chance that the Firefighter Teams will be able to enter at no charge. Competition teams will be battling for a top award of 800 dollars. You can find the entry form HERE. If you don’t wish to compete but would like to come sample the BBQ, tickets are being sold for 10 dollars.

The Apparatus show will have a total of 11 different categories, ranging non motorized pieces to modern apparatus. This event is open to all year model Fire Trucks, Tankers, Rescue and Special Service Apparatus. Winners will receive a dash plaque. All entries will receive 2 free tickets to sample the BBQ. There was originally a deadline to enter by October 28th, but that has been waved and applications will be accepted up to the day before the show.
