Moncks Corner, SC (WCIV) Officials with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have confirmed a man taken into custody Thursday is charged with arson second degree in two recent Berkeley County fires.

There was a fire at the Walgreens on Highway 52 Wednesday afternoon, and those who initially responded believed it may have been intentionally set in a small room. Friday, a fire ripped through the Macedonia Church of God of Prophecy that officials also believed was suspicious due to the fire’s point of origin.

Moncks Corner probationary firefighter, Randy “RJ” Wayne Cannon Jr. is charged with two counts of second degree arson. His arrest has come as somewhat of a shock in the community. Bonneau Police Chief Franco Fuda said he spoke at the young man’s Eagle Scout ceremony. SLED also confirms “RJ” is the son of a Moncks Corner fireman.

Moncks Corner, SC (WCIV) Officials with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division have confirmed they were called to assist with an investigation at the Walgreens store on Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.

There was a fire at the Walgreens Wednesday afternoon, and those who initially responded believed it may have been intentionally set in a storage room. Sources tell ABC News 4 the dispatch time for the fire was 3:46 p.m.

Arrested in connection to the fire is a Moncks Corner probationary firefighter, Randy Wayne Cannon. His arrest has come as somewhat of a shock in the community. Bonneau Police Chief Frank Fuda said he spoke at the young man’s Eagle Scout ceremony.

SConFire.com has learned that Cannon has been with the Town of Moncks Corner Fire Department for under 3 months. He is being charged with 16-11-0110(B) ~ 2551 ~ Arson / Arson – Second degree 334. Cannon made local news in 2014 when he was expelled from school for accidentally bringing a boxcutter to school. This is the second suspicious fire in Berkeley County in recent days.
