Two South Carolina Firefighters Remembered At NFFF Memorial Service

Today the nation remembers the sacrifices of ninety-five Firefighters, two of which were from South Carolina. – Colt Roy Photo

2016 wasn’t an easy year for South Carolina Firefighters, as the Fire Service mourned the Line of Duty Deaths of two of our own beloved members. Firefighter Chris Ray of Conway Fire Rescue was killed in the line of duty while working at the scene of a residential fire on March 20th, 2016. His death touched many members in the Hory County area and beyond, as Chris was an active member of both Conway Fire Rescue as a paid Firefighter and a longtime volunteer with Horry County Fire Rescue. Jeff Worsham’s death was equally as touching for Berkeley County Firefighters as Jeff, just like Chis, was an active member of two Fire Departments. Serving as the Fire Marshal “FM6” for Whitesville Rural Volunteer Fire Department and Deputy Chief “502” with neighboring Pimlico Volunteer Fire Department, Jeff suffered a medical emergency of his own just hours after running a call, doing what he loved, helping his community, and after several days in ICU, he passed away on December 10th, 2016. Jeff also had roots going back to the Ashley River Fire Department as well as Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

These brave men were among ninety-five firefighters who were remembered in today’s service.

Both Firefighter Ray and Deputy Chief Worsham were remembered at the state’s fire academy in a memorial service held on April 14th. READ MORE HERE
