Hanahan, SC – Today marked a milestone for the Hanahan Fire Department as they placed a 2018 E-One Typhoon custom pumper in service. This pumper is the first completely custom ordered apparatus in the department’s history. Sporting a unique grey over red paint scheme, it was purpose designed from the ground up to meet the needs of Hanahan Fire Department. In attendance today was members of City Council, City Manager Johnny Cribb, several members of local departments and special guests from Bowen’s Corner Elementary. When asked about the grey over red paint scheme Fire Chief Bowers smiled as he replied: “We wanted to be different.”
Today’s ceremony included a traditional “wet down” and the apparatus being pushed in by members of the department. Both of these traditions go back to the very beginnings of the modern fire service when apparatus were horse-drawn or man-powered.
